How is your spring going?

This is my favorite season in New York. Flowers everywhere. I just returned to the city after six weeks away and realized I missed the magnolias and the cherry blossoms already, but the roses are blooming soon. And my birthday is less than a month away.

What have you worked on in the past year that you're most happy with?

I've been writing a lot of journalism for my collection Sunshine State, which is coming out in the spring with Harper Perennial. One of the pieces traces the history of a marginal religious movement and its establishment in a particular area of Florida. I feel pretty good about the work I did on that one.

What’s your favorite brunch spot?

I'm afraid if I tell you it might encourage others to go there and I'd like to keep it to myself for as long as possible, so I'll decline to answer this question.

What can people expect from your reading?

Something outrageous.
